A two storey, late Victorian, stucco brick building with lace work decorations designed by John Kirkpatrick. It was built in 1887 by T. Browne and has been consistently run as a Hotel ever since. "T. Browne 1887" is visible embossed on a central parapet on both street-facing facades of the building.
The Hotel was created to service the growing population of Randwick during the late 19th century, due to the establishment of the Randwick Racecourse and Randwick Asylum for Destitute Children.
