Alternative namesDudley's EmporiumDate Built1912-1913Description
Built by Herbert Dudley, one of Randwick City's greatest real estate developers. Construction began in 1912, with the two-storey edwardian style mixed residential and commercial building officially opening in 1913.
Dudley was responsible for much of the growth around the Maroubra area.
He was quick to recognize the need for community services and facilities close to residential areas if residential growth was to be encouraged, and as such he began building the Emporium. The emporium included a cinema, produce store, hardware and grocery store, drapery, refreshments, chemist, butchery and residence. He also built a wooden school (now Maroubra Junction Public School) in the following years.
