It was built c 1892 as a lock-up, containing 2 cells and charge room, and by 1901 it was converted into a police station. The building was first designed by the Colonial Architect, James Barnet, in c 1883, with sympathetic additions added in 1902, designed by Colonial Architect, W.L. Vernon.
