TitleWheatstone Bridge, Australectric Co.About this objectA Wheatstone Bridge is used to accurately measure electrical resistance. It consists of two known resisters, one variable resistor and one unknown resistor, connected in the bridge. By adjusting the variable resistor until no current flows through the galvanometer, the bridge is said to be ‘balanced’. At this point, the ratio of the two known resistors equals the ratio between the variable and the unknown resistors, allowing the value of the unknown resistance to be calculated.
Australectric Co. was an early subsidiary of Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia) Ltd. (AWA) in response to the growing demand for expanding radio equipment. The company later broadened its operations to include importing and manufacturing electrical and X-ray equipment.
