Constructed in 1924 (On then Belmore Road) for Thomas A. Field, a meat supplier and grazier, who inherited his father's butchery buisness in 1900 and expanded it to have control over one-third of Sydney's wholesale meat trade. He donated the building to the Australian Red Cross in 1941 on the condition it was to be used for philanthropic or charitable purposes only, as such they leased the building to Legacy Sydney who set up a convalescent home for ex servicemen there from 1942-1946. In 1973, the Red Cross regained the property and established a Junior Red Cross Home there. When its childcare centre closed down, the old mansion became home to the Australian Red Cross’ Young Parents Program. The program supports vulnerable young parents aged 13 to 18 and their children and provides them with residential accommodation and full support services.
