Constructed in approximately 1895 as two terraces, number 49 known as 'Vermont' or 'St Elmo' during its first few years, and 51 was known as 'Strathmore'. Mrs Jane Ryan purchased both blocks and built the mansion, althought never lived there instead kept it as an investment property. Alterations were complete in 1936 to convert the building into 4 flats.
