Life-sized statue of novilist and social commentator Charles Dickens, one of three in the world. The statue was one of eleven aquired in 1889 to decorate the park, which had been dedicated a year prior, and was placed in the park in 1891 at the junction of Parkes and Hamilton drive before it was moved to its current location in 1897. in 1972, most statuary of the park was removed and placed into storage, and was thought to be lost for around 40 years. In 2006, a search for the missing statue was prompted, which found it had been put into 'protective custody' by the Royal Botanic Gardens due to large amount of damage it has sustained. In 2008, The Botanic Gardens Trust offered to return the statue to Centennial Park, in partnership with the Department of Services, Technology and Administration’s (DSTA) Centenary Stoneworks Program. The statue was unveilied and reinstated in the park on Dickens' 199th Birthday.
