A bronze statue of renowned cellist Jacqueline du Pré, OBE, at Kensington Park on was unveiled on the 23rd of September 2018. The statue, created by Croatian sculptor Drago Marin Cherina, was a generous gift to Randwick City Council from Music & Opera Singers Trust. It is situated in a grassed area in front of the Kingsford Community Centre, to become a focal point of peace and serenity for all visitors. Jaqueline du Pré was a gifted English cellist who after a stellar career wowing audiences worldwide, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when she was only 26 years old. She was famed for her masterful interpretations and her passionate style of playing and throughout the 1960s achieved mainstream popularity, even outside the circles of classical music.
