The original sculpture of Sir Henry Parkes (1815-1896), situated on a sandstone pedestal, was placed in the park in 1897 as a memorial to him, and to honour his dedication of the area of land as public parkland in 1888 to celebrate the centenary of white Australia. It remained in the park until 1970, when it was removed to be put into storage due to damage and vandalism. In 1996, a new Bronze sculpture of Sir Henry Parkes was created and unveiled on the 100th anniversary on his death, situated on the original sandstone pedestal. A broze plaque was put alongside the statue.
