Full titleArmy vehicles training at Yarra Bay (1/5)Date21st March 1966DescriptionArmy vehicles training at Yarra Bay. Two groups of 9 and 4 Amphibian vehicles, stoped for lunch with local aboriginal man in foreground overlooking the beach. During the 1950s and 1960s these vehicles came from the base at Randwick Army Depot and used this bay monthly to practice manoeuvres. Blaxland was told it was for an expedition in Antarctica conveying freights and goods from the ship to the base. South Maroubra Beach was another location used for training. To the right of the image is the original undisturbed dune system- upon which Randwick Council commenced using it as a tip in 1968. Botany Cemetery is visible across the hills in the background, with Bunnerrong Powerstation faded in the distance.
