‘This painting is about my family. My mum has 11 brothers and sisters. Mum and her older sisters played representative netball. That is them, the 4 goonyas (Black Swans). My nan played vigaro for the Rosella’s at La Perouse. My Aunty played for the Waratahs NSW and Australia in netball. My three uncles played for the Waratahs and Wallabies in Rugby Union. One of them was the first to captain the Wallabies. They are Mark, Glen, Garry, Marcia Ella’ – Natalie Bateman Object No.2020.3Physical descriptionThis oil painting depicts a bevy of black swans flying over a field of waratahs and wallabies, with a parrot perched on a branch.
