D'Entrecasteaux visited Sydney and Botany Bay on 26 January 2023 from New Caledonia and continued the tradition of visiting French ships by donating a plaque bearing the ship’s name after a visit to the Laperouse Monument.Object No.2023.1.1Physical descriptionThe plaque bears the insignia of D'Entrecasteaux, consisting of an anchor behind a shield and topped with a spiral shell above a crown. A leaping stag facing left is raised in relief in the centre of the burned wood part of the shield. Two lines of text, ‘D'ENTRECASTEAUX / NOUVELLE-CALEDONIE’ is burnt on the plaque using pyrography technique. DimensionsH: 19.8cm
